Policy Work

My policy work spans tax reform, agricultural development, and circular economy adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on translating rigorous empirical research into actionable recommendations for governments and development partners. I am interested in expanding my work beyond Sub-Saharan Africa and am actively pursuing opportunities to collaborate with policymakers in Belgium and beyond.

International — Global Tax Development

In 2025, I led a research team in the publication of a policy brief for the T20 (the official think tank of the G20) submitted for the G20 South Africa presidency. The brief addresses structural imbalances in the global tax system that leave Global South countries vulnerable to unfavorable treaty terms, profit shifting by multinational corporations, and limited fiscal sovereignty.

The brief argues that the OECD-led international tax framework has marginalized Global South countries, and makes the case for a UN-centred alternative through the UNFCITC that prioritizes inclusivity, fiscal sovereignty, and development-oriented revenue strategies. It proposes four concrete actions for G20 members, including endorsing inclusive multilateralism, advancing transparency initiatives, and committing to capacity-building partnerships in the Global South.

Kenya — Tax Policy

As a Research Associate with the Development Economics Research Group at the University of Copenhagen, I led and contributed to several policy research teams in collaboration with the Government of Kenya, funded by DANIDA and the Royal Danish Embassy. This work involved analyzing large administrative datasets to assess policy risks and design tax reforms, and presenting findings to cabinet secretaries, MPs, and stakeholders at dissemination workshops in Nairobi. My work has contributed directly to current Kenyan tax policy including on the excise tax on tobacco and alcohol and VAT exemptions.

Kenya — Agricultural & Circular Economy

Alongside my tax policy work, I have contributed to research on smallholder farmer behavior and circular economy adoption in Kenya, examining how information interventions and collective action frameworks can promote sustainable agricultural practices such as biochar adoption from tomato biowaste. This work will inform policy on circular economy investments for the Government of Kenya and multiple international and local NGOs.

Kenya

Kenya — Trade

I conducted extensive research at the Port of Mombassa to advise the Government of Kenya on trade policy. The focus of my work was conducted on issues of irregular payments at the port. This work is still ongoing.

Denmark & International — Humanitarian Finance

As a Humanitarian Innovation Finance Assistant at the Danish Red Cross, I conducted policy research on decentralized finance mechanisms in humanitarian settings and supported workshops on transparency, legitimacy, and stakeholder trust in crisis response. Mentored by a team of experts, I helped develop internal and external policies to grow access to non-traditional finance for Red Cross/Red Crescent partners around the world.
